URT SPOOK: The Haunting Recap

More than 300 goblins, ghouls and monsters descended upon Shipwrecks Beach to celebrate the eighth annual URT Spook Halloween costume surf event.

On Oct. 28, Coronado-based brand URT transformed the shore into a haunting gathering place. URT Spook started with founder Ian Urtnowski and his buddies surfing in costume but transformed into an event that brings together ocean enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds.

We wanted to take away the competitive edge of surfing and bring something that’s nostalgic

Families and friends submerged themselves in the URT Spook experience. As beachgoers walked through a haunted passageway to enjoy a screening of clips from classic Halloween films, kids concocted slime and other crafts in the Little Spookers’ Zone. Members of IB Posse, a local sand sculpting team, brought the shore to life with an amphibious sand creature.

This was my first time at URT Spook and I was truly blown away

This is such a unique and unforgettable event that brings the local community together to celebrate Halloween along the shore.

The first URT Spook after party raised more than $1,000 to benefit the Charles Humphrey Keating IV Foundation. Founded in memoriam of Keating, a Coronado resident who was killed in combat, the C4 Foundation is a nonprofit that preserves family unity between active duty Navy SEALs and their loved ones.

Charlie fully embodied not only all the ideals that define and shape URT, but also took us to places we never could have thought possible

By standing shoulder-to-shoulder and working alongside the foundation, we want to preserve his memory for many years to come.

It’s all about having a good time and building ties by embracing and uplifting the entire coastal community.

The proceeds will go towards the cost of operating and renovating the foundation’s 560-acre ranch property located in East San Diego County.

Through research-based programs, the C4 Foundation will use this property to encourage healthy bonding for Navy SEAL families throughout every point of deployment, before and after.
