2026 URT DIG RECAP: Remembering 10 Years

2026 URT DIG RECAP: Remembering 10 Years

This last Sunday we held our yearly URT DIG Hole Digging Competition here in Coronado.  The DIG was the final event from our 10 year anniversary LIVE HEAVY Weekend honoring the life of friend and fallen Navy SEAL Charlie Keating who was killed in action in 2016.  All proceeds went directly to his family's foundation, the C4 Foundation, which helps support Navy SEAL families.

We were so excited to have the largest turnout in the event’s history… 83 diggers! All diggers had 10 minutes to dig the deepest hole they could.  This year the conditions were interesting as the flooding with water.  Despite the added environmental challenge, all diggers showed up in amazing fashion.

A big thanks to friend Jonathan Wayne Freeman as the MC and also to all our amazing sponsors including Half Face Blades, Pelican, Noveske, Emerald Spear Tequila, the Foley Group, Sweat Circuit, Brass and Unity, Angel’s Envy, Hollands Bicycles, IB Pet, Tadpole Tactical, and Legacy Swim Academy.  Also, a big thanks to Heavy Ho for keeping our contestants caffeinated with their locally brewed coffee.

Diggers competed in 4 divisions starting with the kids PLASTIC Shovel Division.  There was intense competition from both the girls and the boys and the results show how close it was!

GIRLS:

1. Rosalie McManus 2’1”

2. Caden Nankivel 1’10”

3. Capri Dooley 1’7”

4. Juliana McManus 1’6”

5. Madeline Worthington 1’4.5”

1. Rowan Degree 2’5”

2. Emerson Geiger 2’1”

3. Ned Hines 2’0”

4. Milton Zajac 1’11”

5. Damon Botha 1’10”

After a short break to fill in the deep holes from the kids we were ready for the main event, the METAL Division for adults.  Same rules as the kids, but a bit more intensity with the upgrade to metal shovels.  We saw a variety of shovel sizes and digging techniques to achieve the deepest hole.  The last minute proved to be make or break for our competitors as some pushed through to the next level of the earth.  The following men and women came out victoriously:

WOMEN:

1. Katie Ellis 3’10”

2. Maria Wiltshire 3’8”

3. Lauren Shuffett 3’7”

4. Jennifer Niebel 3’5”

5. Louise Nutter 3’3”

MEN:

2. Tim Speer 5’0”

7. Connor Herron 4’0”

8. Michael Wong 3’11”

9. Reif Souder 3’ 10”

10. Jayce Ohare 3’8”

After the heat of the METAL division, we reached our grand finale, the HANDS and PAWS division.  This is the PURIST division as all you or your pup need is your mitts and witts.  When the whistle blew and the clock started the competitors dropped to all fours and started scratching and clawing the earth like there was no tomorrow.  Our final event concluded with the sound of a tired whistle and the top 3 humans and dogs were crowned.

HANDS:

1. Paget Kellogg 2’6”

2. Michael Bartell 2’1.5”

3. Peter Zajac 2’0"

DOGS:

1. Rhea 1’8.5

2. Marley 1’6.5”

3. Atlas 1’1.5”

Thanks to everyone who came out this year to DIG and HONOR the 10 years since we lost Charlie.
