The 12th Annual URT LOB OFF Freedive Lobster Grab competition took place last Sunday September 29 at Garbage Break in Point Loma's reef structures. Divers had an hour and a half to see how many legal bugs they could grab. Lobsters were then taken to the judging table for measuring and weighing.
The conditions were less than ideal with a high swell and overcast weather to make the visibility close to nothing. Despite the poor conditions we had 44 divers compete and 22 lobsters were caught!
Our first place winner was David Murline who snagged 4 total lobsters with a total weight of 5.84 pounds. He also won the BIG BUG award for the biggest lobster which was 1.65 pounds. In second place we had Will Appleby who caught 3 bugs with a total of 4.08 pounds. Rounding out the top three was Jack Marovish who also grabbed 3 lobsters with a total weight of 3.64 pounds.
Big thanks to Riffe and JBL spearguns for supporting the event with prizes for the winners. Also thank you to all the contestants for coming out to support our bugging for another great season opener!
